A coordinate measuring machine (CMM) is a precision instrument used to measure the geometric characteristics of a product. It works by moving the probe along the X, Y and Z coordinate axes to record coordinates, dimensions and/or shape. They can use tactile probes, optical sensors or laser scanners. CMM machines are still key quality control devices today, ensuring that parts meet design specifications. The data collected by the CMM machine is used to accurately verify parts, improve manufacturing processes and ensure product consistency.
3D scanning is the process of digitizing a physical object using a 3D scanner that collects data about its three-dimensional surface. The scanner emits light beams, lasers, or other technologies and measures the reflection to create points on the object’s surface, creating a dense network known as a “point cloud.” This data is then processed to produce a digital 3D model that accurately represents the shape and dimensions of the original object.
Industrial CT scanning is a technology that uses computed tomography to analyze the internal structures and geometry of parts. This method uses X-rays to create detailed 3D images of the inside of components without damaging them. The process involves rotating the object as x-rays pass through it, creating a series of cross-sections that are computationally processed into a three-dimensional model. Industrial CT scanning is used for quality control, defect detection, measurement analysis, reverse engineering and design validation. It provides high precision and insight into complex internal structures that other methods cannot reveal.
services
When we talk about engineering services, we primarily focus on the processing of data obtained by scanning – reverse engineering and As-built modeling.
By reverse engineering, we can convert 3D scan into CAD format, an example is the conversion of STL into STEP format.
On the other hand, with the combination of As-Built and scanning you can get virtual models of industrial/commercial objects and thus get its verification, check the layout of production lines or equipment and improve the design.
Mechanical design includes the creation of geometry of solids and surfaces in 3D CAD software, components and assemblies construction, and creation of production documentation.
Our team, skills and resources ensure that we can carry your product through the various stages during development – from concept, design, documentation, prototyping, production and verification of the resulting part (FEA and CFD simulations, as well as dimensional analysis) and all in in accordance with industry standards.

‣ A CAD model is obtained from the scan of the real part. Scan data (point cloud) can be transformed to solid model which can be later exported to the appropriate formats (STEP, IGES, Parasolid, AutoCAD DXF etc).
‣ 3D scan and solid model are compared using the so-called deviation analysis.
‣ Helpful in case of lack of technical documentation, with improvement and optimization of existing products or if it is necessary to obtain a new model in the most efficient way
‣ With complex surfaces, certain organically shaped surfaces and geometries such as threads and curves, scanning and reverse engineering are necessary to obtain a CAD model.
‣ Creation of geometry of solids and surfaces in 3D CAD software and production documentation
‣ According to the latest European, local and specific standards.
‣ Assembly Modeling,
‣ Complex Surface Modeling/3D Surfacing,
‣ Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T),
‣ Gauge and Fixturing,
‣ Design optimization with FEA and CFD solutions,
‣ HVAC Systems Designs,
‣ Production of prototypes and parts manufacturing.

3D scanning digitizes the entire surface of the samples, resulting in a cloud of points – a precise model of the sample surface.
The point cloud is further used in two ways: for comparison with the CAD model (comparison of surfaces or determination of dimensions or shape and position tolerances) or for reconstruction of the geometry of the sample surface.
Laser trackers are used to measure the dimensions of structures with large overall dimensions (welded structures, calibration of welding masks (manual or robotic)). The device monitors and continuously determines the position of the point that the operator places at different places on the structure.
If we need to determine the flatness of the surface, we first define the positions points on the surface, then we form a plane through the calculated points and calculate the flatness value as the sum of the maximum deviations from the approximated plane.
Photogrammetry is a high-precision technique for measuring machine parts with large overall dimensions based on reference markers placed on the parts and photographs of the parts taken at different angles. Positions of reference markers – points are calculated on the basis of photographs with high precision. With this method, all characteristics that would otherwise be measured without a CMM can be measured. For example, to determine the flatness of a surface, points on that surface are glued, a plane is formed through the calculated points, and the flatness value of the surface is determined based on the calculated positions of the points.
Space, exterior and interior are digitized by laser 3D scanning. It is intended for mechanical structures in construction and digitalization of process equipment. The resulting STL models can be directly used as an input to BIM modeling.
